this is such a great event that happens all over the world. this company is called over the edge. they help non-profit organizations raise funds. this over the edge event was was hosted by the big brothers big sisters of the greater miami valley.
this was the second year i volunteered because i absolutely loved it last year. the over the edge team is always comprised of great people who have similar adventurous spirits. i will be taking darien up on going vertical caving with him in georgia sometime and visiting north carolina to check out the scene in laid back asheville to see art.
my favorite moment of the event was on friday night during urban nights when we had two people left to put over. one was someone who was 14 years old and so deathly afraid he could not spit out an entire sentence. it was pouring, we were as wet as a noodle in a pot, yet this guy mustered up the courage to push past his fear and literally step outside his comfort zone and finished his rappel. i got goose bumps and choked up a bit talking with karl (the owner of the urban krag) about how that young man just changed his perspective on life. this is why i volunteer two days of my life a year to this event, to make people smile and feel accomplished after they overcome a fear, and also to possibly even change your life.
